Yuki Minami, CEO of Aequitas Coffee, is on a mission to build a network of change agents in the coffee industry deserving of community recognition. These change agents include her fellow Brazilian farmers of Japanese descent, who are bonding together in celebration of their Japanese roots. They’re also challenging the status quo of selling commodity coffee, in favor of growing and promoting specialty coffee from São Gotardo. Yuki was raised on a coffee farm but never thought she would work in coffee. After a career working for multinational agribusiness companies in São Paulo, Yuki realized that her incredible hometown coffee industry needed a representative and moved back home with her father to pursue the opportunity. Since then, she has focused on leading projects in coffee traceability, post-harvesting techniques, farm certifications, and pursuing a new dream: reaching the specialty coffee market and sharing the stories of her family and other local producers. This dream serves as a way to honor her ancestors’ bravery and each coffee tree that contributed to the prosperity they experience today.
