Our decaffeinated coffee is decaffeinated with supercritical CO2 . The beans are first treated with steam and then rinsed with supercritical carbon dioxide at 73-300 bar for several hours.
This has the ability to only dissolve caffeine. After purging with CO2 , the pressure in the chamber is normalized again and the gas, together with the dissolved caffeine, completely evaporates from the coffee. The used gas can be reprocessed through activated carbon filters and the caffeine can be bottled for other purposes.
Due to its properties, the carbon dioxide does not attack the aromas of the coffee and it retains its high quality.
Our current decaffeinated coffee comes from the Mierisch family in Nicaragua, from whom we have been purchasing coffee for many years. The coffee is roasted with a medium roast level and is suitable for all types of preparation.
